Photography
The department of photography of Pathshala is recognised as an institution offering the highest quality education in photography currently available. Through Drik Picture Library and its associated news agency DrikNews, Pathshala students get regular opportunities for training and work experience.
The photography department of Pathshala offers:
• A four-week basic course in Photography
• An eight-week foundation course in Photography
• A one-year programme in Photography
• A two-year advanced programme in Photography
• A three year Professional programme in Photography
The language of instruction at Pathshala is English with Bangla being thrown in for elaboration.
A four-week Basic Course in Photography
The basic course is designed for people who want to learn about the equipment, techniques and technology of photography at a beginners' level. The course consists of 12 classes (including the exams) spread over a period of four weeks. To join the class, applicants must have a secondary school certificate or equivalent.
An eight-week Foundation Course in photography
The foundation course is designed for people who completed basic photography course. The course consists of 22 classes spread over a period of twelve weeks. To join the class, applicants must have a secondary school certificate or equivalent.
Three Years Programme in Photography
Eligibility/ Admission Requirement
1. HSC (Minimum CGPA 2.5 or 2nd class)
2. Basic / Foundation Course in Photography (At least one month from any Photographic institution)
3. Proficiency in speaking and writing English
Candidates must submit:
1. Two reccent passport-size photographs of the candidate
2. Attested photocopies of all academic certificates
3. Attested photocopies of the certificate of Basic/Foundation course in Photography
4. A portfolio (ten printed photographs of 10''X8'' size)

FIRST SEMESTER
1. Darkroom techniques
2. Techniques of Photography -I
3. Introduction to types of photography (portrait, landscape, street photography, still life, fashion)
4. History of Photography -I: 19th century (1824-1890’s)
5. English Language (mandatory) Basic level
- Workshop: Basic Story telling (Part of the techniques of photography course)
- Workshop: Ethics and intellectual property (questions related to ethics)
SECOND SEMESTER
1. Techniques of Photography -II
2. Digital Photography -I (mainly Photoshop and digital imaging)
3. Studio Photography
4. History of Photography -II: 20st century (1890’-1950’s & history of photography in Bangladesh)
5. English Language (mandatory) Advanced level
FEE
35000* BDT per semester (Two semesters in a year) for Bangladeshi and SAARC students only [* Conditions Applied]

Studio
The Pathshala studio provides students opportunity to practice their various class assignments pertaining to studio works for free. But for any commercial propose Pathshala will charge Tk. 300/- per hour.
The studio will remain open only during office hours. The students will have to book in advance beforehand with the admin office and are allowed maximum three hours at a time.
Dark room
The Pathshala Dark room is for the exclusive use of students for their practical sessions and class assignments.For any commercial propose Pathshala will charge Tk. 300/- per hour.The darkroom remains open only during office hours. Computer Lab
The computer lab has completed Pathshala metamorphosis into a fully-fledged campus. In between classes students chat, share ideas, use the studio and dark room or borrow books from the library. The computer Lab is equivalent to digital Light room and all-important digital classes are conducted out there. The students have free access to the computer lab except Fridays and Government holidays.
