The World Press Photo Foundation , based in the Netherlands is the most respected global organization dedicated to photojournalism. WPP is committed to a series of workshops over the next three years. They will sponsor a minimum of two international experts who will conduct workshops with around fifteen participants. The participants will be given assignments throughout the year and their work will be regularly assessed. At a later stage, attempts will be made to have their work published in international publications and to provide them placements to impart hands-on training. Each workshop will be accompanied by the World Press Photo annual exhibition, which will also be a resource that the trainers may use. Other programmes such as open lectures and seminars are also planned during this period. Funding for the World Press Photo component for the next three years by the Netherlands Ministry for Development and Communication has been confirmed.

Panos South Asia is based in Nepal. Its mission to provide information for social change complements the goals of social justice that Drik adheres to. Panos will help develop the archival section of Drik and set it up as a regional picture library. This archive could also later be developed for distance education. Panos is particularly interested in the inter-regional aspects of the training. They have also confirmed that their future photojournalism training programmes will be conducted by Pathshala. Panos is already helping to set up a picture library in Nepal.

The Thomson Foundation , based in the UK provides photojournalism training all over the developing world. TTF is prepared to provide a trainer for two workshops of two weeks duration each, every year. They are also helping to develop the course curriculum - a draft outline for the course has been prepared by Drik. TTF will provide accreditation to the graduates of Pathshala; the exact nature of this is in the process of sorting out. However, it was felt that the credibility of the organization involved would be sufficient to validate any course or degree offered by the Pathshala. The Foundation would not charge a fee for the trainer but would require economy air fare and modest accommodation. TTF has already committed itself to conducting workshops in March 1999.

The British Council ' s contribution is in training in management skills and in areas exploring the role of the media in good governance and democracy. Copyright and intellectual property issues could also be addressed through the British Council. They could also help in developing teaching material and support the formation of a book and video library at the Institute.

Drik Picture Library provides the organizational support for the Institute. At the initial stage, the physical resources at Drik will be used for training. On a longer term the organization will provide the professional support to photographers to carry out assignments, in negotiating with clients, in distribution of work, in editorial support and of course through the gallery and darkroom by showcasing their work. Drik's experience in having conducted over thirty workshops and seminars over the last eight years is invaluable. The archives, through its extensive network both within the region and internationally will help in providing work for the photographers. The multimedia, publication and Internet sections will allow the photographers to reach out to key locations internationally and get a feel for the global aspects of the business. Drik has identified the premises and key resource people for the Institute.
